Bert Frank // Utility and design at The Service Savile Row

“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” - William Morris

William Morris believed good design to be a combination of beauty and utility. The same philosophy is held by award winning British lighting company, Bert Frank, whose designs both illume and enhance the spaces in which they are placed.

Take the brass Riddle pendants hanging in the window of The Service, their iconic symmetry and minimalism bringing subtle decoration to the location’s frontage while also providing soft yet ample light to the baristas working beneath them. Or the curvaceous oxblood Revolve table lamp perched monolithically between two mid-century chairs, acting as a elegent centrepiece while providing an amber glow to patrons reading their morning paper.

But for this independent British company, it isn’t just about the end product. It’s about the craftsmanship and materials that go into creating them.

Founded by Adam Yeats and Robbie Llewellyn in 2013, Bert Frank designs and makes all of its products right here in the UK. Their factory, located on the outskirts of Birmingham, is full of talented craftsmen and women who use traditional techniques in turning, milling, machining and spinning to produce premium quality lights from the best materials in the world.

Bert Frank’s workshop is no 19th century throwback. It’s a forward-thinking, switched-on, technologically advanced factory employing highly skilled machinists and vastly experienced fabricators. Bert Frank lamps are very much ‘hand-made’ items produced in small numbers, often to meet a customer’s precise specifications – as near bespoke as possible.
